First things first. After numerous E-mails back and forth and several trial downloads, I think that I may be zeroing in on the elluminate problem. I have successfully downloaded and installed the
Java
Access
Bridge on two XP machines. Both of these have been giving me some feedback when I open java aps, so I’m reasonably confident that Elluminate will be met with at least some success. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for my Windows Vista lap top and the
Java
Access
Bridge. No matter how many times I reinstall or make sure I have the latest and most up to date this or that, I just can’t seem to get Jaws and Java to cooperate in a
Vista environment. The Elluminate people tell me that they have indeed got it working with no problems, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
One reality that I have been faced with since starting work here nearly a month ago is the inescapable fact that people love meetings. Everybody constantly wants to be updated, informed, and included in brain storming sessions. Every now and then somebody doesn’t want to come to a meeting, so whoever is throwing the meeting brings timbits and people come out of the woodworks to meet and greet each other until all of the donuts are gone. There is value in many, if not all, of the meetings mind you. It’s not as though it’s entirely down time. Last Thursday My group “DigiTLE” had a two and a half hour long meeting to discuss the design of the new Organic Chemistry flash animations the really left me feeling drained for the rest of the morning. I was surprised, but what could I do about it? I went to lunch. That’s what I did. Either way, all of this socializing does seem to breed new connections and ideas, so I suppose I’ll see how many meetings we continue to have in the average week before knocking hem too much. I’ve gotta go though. There’s doughnuts.
